Plans and limits

Your plan decides how many projects you can run, how many people can work in them, how much room there is for files, and which extras your projects carry, such as rates, the timeline and a linked repository. Every new account starts with fourteen days of everything Pro offers, and nothing you make is ever deleted when a plan or trial ends.

You find your plan under Settings, tab Plan. The page shows which plan is yours (marked Your plan), what every plan holds, and how many trial days you have left.

The free trial#

Every new account gets a trial of 14 days, including accounts created through an invitation.

• During the trial your account works as Pro: rates, budgets, the timeline, repositories, the manager role and the timeline across all your projects.
• The trial gives Pro and not Business, so the hours across every project are not part of it.
• The sidebar shows how many days are left (for example Trial, 5 days left). Click it to open the plan page.
• When the trial is over, the sidebar says Your trial has ended and your account continues on Free, unless another plan has been set for you.

After the trial your projects, hours and files stay where they are. Rates and budgets go out of sight until you are on a paid plan again, and what you filled in is kept. See what happens when a plan ends.

In short:

• Free: tasks and time tracking for a couple of projects, without rates and invoicing.
• Plus: for freelancers. More projects, with rates, budgets and what you still have to invoice.
• Pro: for a small team. More projects, more people, the manager role and one timeline across them all.
• Business: for agencies. Room for your whole team and all the clients that come with it, plus the hours of every project on one page.

Tracking time on a project comes with every plan. What the paid plans add is the money around it: rates, budgets and marking hours as invoiced. More about that in Time and invoicing.

Changing your plan#

Taskstand is in beta, so there is nothing to pay yet and there is no checkout. The prices on the plan page show what each plan will cost once paying is possible.

How the limits are counted#

The limits always belong to the owner of a project. The people you invite do not need a plan of their own: they keep their own free account and pay nothing.

Active projects#

Every project you own counts, except the ones with the status Completed or Archived. A finished project is a record, not running work, so completing or archiving a project makes room for a new one. When you are at your limit, creating a project is refused with a message that says so.

Reopening a completed or archived project counts as adding one again, so it has to fit within your limit too.

People#

People are counted across all your running projects together, not per project.

• You count yourself.
• Somebody who is in four of your projects takes one place, not four.
• Every role counts, Reader and Restricted included.
• A completed or archived project gives its people back, unless they also work in another running project of yours.
• An invitation you sent takes its place right away, because it is about to become a member. It keeps that place until it is accepted, runs out, or you Revoke it. Revoking gives the place back at once.
• Inviting somebody who already works in another running project of yours costs nothing.

When a project comes back from Completed or Archived, everyone on it has to fit again. If they do not, reopening is refused, so you never end up over your limit without having added anyone.

Handing a project to another owner works the same way: the project, and everyone on it, has to fit within the plan of the new owner.

Files#

Storage counts every file attached to a task or a comment in all the projects you own, finished and archived ones included. Removing files, or deleting a project, makes room. There is also a maximum size per file, which depends on the owner's plan; the upload tells you when a file is too big.

When you reach a limit#

A refusal always says what to do next: free up a place, or move up to the next plan. On Business there is no bigger plan, so the message points you to support@taskstand.app and we will look at what you need.

Whose plan counts#

Most of what a project carries follows the plan of the project owner, because the owner pays for the project. The same project looks the same to everyone on it, whatever their own plan is.

Follows the plan of the project owner:

• the limits on projects, people and files
• rates, budgets, money totals and the invoicing state of hours
• start dates and the timeline of that project, see Timeline
• a linked GitHub repository, see GitHub
• whether someone can be given the Manager role

Follows your own plan, because these pages belong to no single project:

• the timeline across all your projects (Pro and Business)
• the hours across every project, with an export (Business, and only when you track time somewhere)

So a team member invited to a Plus project sees the timeline of that project, even on a free account of their own. Who sees the money within a project also depends on their role, see Members and roles.

What happens when a trial or plan ends#

Nothing is deleted. When a trial ends or a plan runs out, your account falls back to Free, and everything you made stays where it is.

• Projects, tasks, hours and files stay. Nothing is closed or archived for you, even when you have more projects or people than Free allows. You just cannot add more until you are within the limit again.
• Rates and budgets go out of sight. What you filled in is kept and comes back once the project owner is on a paid plan again.
• Start dates stay on the tasks. A project that opened on the timeline opens as a list instead.
• Linked repositories stay linked, with the commits that came in. The pages that show them close until the plan comes back.
• Managers keep their role but no longer see the rates, the budget or the money totals.
• Combined pages (the timeline across all projects and the hours across every project) close. The pages still say which plan carries them.

Going back to a plan that carries these features makes them visible again, with everything you entered.
