Taskstand vs Todoist
The calmest task list around. What it does not show you is how your projects are doing, how many hours went into them and what still has to be invoiced.
Where Todoist is better
-
Apps on every device
Todoist has apps for Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, iPad, Android and your watch, and works in your browser and your email. Taskstand runs in the browser, on your phone too.
-
Adding tasks in plain language
Type a task with a date or a repeat in it and Todoist picks it up. They have been refining that for more than ten years, and it shows.
-
Speaking your tasks
With Ramble you say your tasks out loud, in more than forty languages, and Todoist puts them in your list.
-
Over ninety integrations
Calendar, email, time tracking and more, on every plan. Taskstand only connects to GitHub and Sentry, besides a calendar feed.
Where Taskstand is better
-
Every project on one screen
The dashboard shows every running project with its status, progress, hours and what still has to be invoiced. Todoist counts how many tasks are done.
-
The hours are part of it
The timer sits on the task itself, and every hour counts towards the project straight away. In Todoist a duration is an estimate, and tracking time takes an integration.
-
What is still to be invoiced
Give a project a budget with an hourly rate, and Taskstand keeps track per project of the hours that still have to go on an invoice. From Plus.
-
Share a section with your client
A client with the Restricted role sees only the sections or tasks you share. Anyone in a shared Todoist project sees and edits all of it.
-
A timeline in working days
See what runs when, with the length in working days of whoever does the work. From Plus. Todoist has a calendar layout, but no timeline.

Who is better off with Todoist
Todoist stays the better choice for a personal task list that has to be at hand on every device, certainly if you do not track hours or bill per project. Taskstand is not made for your groceries or your personal errands.
Switching from Todoist
Start with what is running now. Make a project per client; the sections from Todoist carry over one to one.
Bring over the open tasks, with their dates and subtasks. Leave what is done in Todoist.
If you keep track of rates, give the project a budget with an hourly rate. From then on you start the timer on the task itself.
Then invite your team, and your client with the Restricted role on the sections they may see.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Taskstand have a mobile app?
- Not in the App Store or on Google Play. Taskstand works in your phone's browser, with a layout made for a small screen, and you can add it to your home screen as an app.
- Can I type a task quickly, like in Todoist?
- Yes. Quick add reads a date, a priority and a label from one line, in English and in Dutch.
- Can my client see my hourly rate?
- No. Rates, budgets and amounts are seen only by the owner of the project and a manager. A client sees nothing about the hours, and a restricted member only what you share with them.
- Do my clients have to pay?
- No. You pay for your own projects. Whoever you invite keeps their own free account and pays nothing. They do count towards the number of people your plan allows.
- Can I keep using Todoist alongside it?
- Yes. The two are not connected and run separately. Keep your personal list in Todoist, and put the work for clients in Taskstand.
