Taskstand vs Asana
Asana is built for teams with set workflows, and you pay per seat. If a few of you work for clients, you mostly pay for buttons you never press.
Where Asana is better
-
Rules and automation
From Starter, Asana's rules pass work on, assign it and move it, without anyone having to remember.
-
Forms
Requests come in through a form and turn into tasks straight away. From Advanced, with questions that depend on the previous answer.
-
Goals, portfolios and workload
For larger teams, Asana ties work to goals and shows who has how much on their plate. Taskstand has no capacity per person.
-
Apps and plenty of integrations
Asana has apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, and more than a hundred integrations. Taskstand runs in the browser, on your phone too.
Where Taskstand is better
-
Your team pays nothing
Asana charges per user. In Taskstand you pay for your own projects, and team members you invite keep their own free account.
-
Hours on every plan
The timer sits on the task, on the free plan too. In Asana, time tracking starts at Advanced.
-
Rates and what to invoice, no add-on
Give a project a budget with an hourly rate, and Taskstand keeps track of the hours that still have to go on an invoice. From Plus, without an extra licence per user.
-
Far fewer buttons
A project is sections and tasks, with a dashboard above it. No rules, forms or goals to set up before you can start.
-
Share a section, not the whole project
A client with the Restricted role sees only the sections or tasks you share. In Asana a guest gets access per project.

Who is better off with Asana
Asana stays the better choice for a larger team with set workflows, one that really uses rules, forms, goals and portfolios and has to spread work across people. Taskstand is not made for that.
Switching from Asana
Start with what is running now. Make a project per client; the sections from Asana carry over one to one.
Bring over the open tasks, with their dates and subtasks. Leave what is done in Asana.
Rules and forms have no counterpart in Taskstand. What they did for you, you do by hand, and for a small team that is usually little.
If you keep track of rates, give the project a budget with an hourly rate. Then invite your team, and your client with the Restricted role on the sections they may see.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Taskstand have a mobile app?
- Not in the App Store or on Google Play. Taskstand works in your phone's browser, with a layout made for a small screen, and you can add it to your home screen as an app.
- Can my client see my hourly rate?
- No. Rates, budgets and amounts are seen only by the owner of the project and a manager. A client sees nothing about the hours, and a restricted member only what you share with them.
- Do my clients and my team have to pay?
- No. You pay for your own projects. Whoever you invite keeps their own free account and pays nothing. They do count towards the number of people your plan allows.
- Can I keep using Asana alongside it?
- Yes. The two are not connected and run separately. A project that runs well in Asana can stay there until it is done.
